Gigabyte has already adapted its entire range of gaming laptops to the new generation of Nvidia RTX 30 Ampere graphics cards, and today’s protagonist will be the AORUS 15P XC. It is a versatile and highly balanced model to provide maximum power and performance.
Under the sleek aluminum chassis in black have no less than a Nvidia RTX 3070 Laptop, CPU Intel Core i7-10870H 8C / 16T and 32 GB of RAM. The new Sharp 240 Hz panels are also used to give us maximum eSport level fluidity. It will be one of the teams with the best performance / price ratio, so this analysis will interest you. Let’s get started!
The design of the AORUS 15P XC has a clear Racing or sports inspiration, especially as far as the top and rear are concerned. A more modern cut than for example the Gigabyte AERO, but still keeping some similarities in the frame and edges of the screen, or a wide front area.
The measurements of this equipment leave us a fairly tight area for keyboard and touchpad, which means that the screen has a high useful percentage. More specifically we are talking about 357 mm wide and 244 mm deep . The 23mm thickness is also similar to most of its rivals like Asus’s Zephyrus or MSI’s GE66s.
The cover and base of the keyboard will be made of aluminum and with excellent finishes, although the thickness will be rather thin. And it is that the screen generates a little more torsion than we would like, although this already happened in the previous models, for its completion it uses a silky touch with slight roughness and matte black color, which will inevitably show all the traces. You can not miss the AORUS logo in the central area provided with white LED lighting.
We really like the rear area, as it reinforces that Racing touch thanks to diffuser-style vents with lines that run throughout the area. Quite aggressive, but without reaching the limits of the manufacturer’s top-of-the-range 17X series. They are wide vents that will allow a good flow of air to be expelled, always aided by two others on each side of the equipment with a more discreet style.
The hinge system continues to use two rectangular anchors completely located on the edge so that when the screen is opened there is no rear exit area. In this way we get to the front, which changes a bit compared to the Gigabyte series, eliminating the square edges to leave a smooth band between two grooves with details in the corners. The work is very good, although it could still be better if the edges of the screen were simplified and its border was omitted. It is obviously a personal opinion .
The base of the AORUS 15P XC will be made of plastic, but finished as good as the aluminum elements. We have a large hawk-shaped opening that allows perfect air suction for the dual fan system. A grid will prevent some of the dirt from entering our hardware. The rubber feet at each corner raise the equipment 3 to 4 mm off the ground for effective airflow.
We arrive at the interior of the laptop, where a membrane keyboard has been installed in full configuration , that is, with NumPad. In this way, the entire width of the notebook is used to the limit, opting for island-type keys with backlighting and an aluminum base of excellent rigidity and without sagging. The touchpad occupies the rest of the free area, with a standard format and slightly angled to the left to improve its use in writing.
The upper region is presented in two heights, with a grill to improve cooling and a step where the webcam has been placed , being a typical position for Gigabyte equipment. As we already announced, the screen has its edges very well used, with aluminum and rubber frames . The thickness in the upper and lateral area is only 4 mm, while the lower area occupies about 30 mm.
In this section, the AORUS 15P XC does not disappoint at all, and the subtle changes to be made compared to the Gigabyte versions really add more dynamism and gamer personality.
This time we analyze the AORUS 15P XC with a screen capable of developing a refresh rate of 240 Hz . We could still find a higher powered version with 300Hz for the non-conformists. The panel that is being used is a Sharp IPS LCD model LQ156M1JW03, which we have also analyzed in Asus and MSI models, and we know that it is one of the best on the market.
Along with this high frequency, we have Adaptyve Sync technology , its response not being specified, although it will be between 5 and 3 ms as usual. In this 15.6-inch size, its Full HD resolution at 1920x1080p in a standard 16: 9 ratio will be perfect . The rest of the features consist of a typical contrast of 1000.1 , typical brightness of 300 nits and a color coverage of 100% sRGB thanks to an 8-bit depth.
This panel, like all those equipped in the new generation of Gigabyte / AORUS laptops, is Pantone certified . This means that each panel has been individually calibrated prior to marketing to provide the user with the highest possible image quality. From the Control Center software we can modify the image mode among a few predefined color temperature profiles, as well as choose the Pantone image mode. The latter will obviously be the one with the best precision.
Regarding the viewing angles, they are around 178 or both vertically and horizontally, complying well with the basic characteristics of a panel of this type. There is very little loss of gloss at wide angles, especially vertically. We have not detected bleeding in the corners, and the color quality is excellent as well as very natural.
Ports and network connectivity
We continue with the external review of the AORUS 15P XC being the turn to see in detail the connections that it implements. In this case, it is already a little behind what the 11th generation of Intel processors offers.

In the section of USB connections we have a fairly standard distribution, although its rivals do better by having some 3.2 Gen2 interfaces or even Thunderbolt 4. In this case, the four connections will be Gen1 at 5 Gbps . At least we will have 4 interfaces and even an SD card reader, always useful for content creators like us.
Regarding the capacity for external monitors, we are quite covered, with Mini DisplayPort whose cable we would have to acquire on our own, and HDMI 2.1 . The ability of the Nvidia RTX 3070 has been leveraged to introduce this interface which supports up to 8K @ 120 Hz.
Regarding network connectivity, it is at an excellent level, although it has not been updated to Wi-Fi 6E, surely leaving it for the next generation with 10nm Intel processors. In this case we will have a Realtek RTL8125 LAN network card that offers us 2.5 Gbps in the RJ45 port, ideal for file transfer via LAN, use of NAS or intranet games. If we want more mobility, we will have an Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 network card , which works in Dual Band at 2.4 and 5 GHz up to 160 MHz.
The sound configuration will consist of two 2W power speakers in a rectangular format. These are located in the lower area and facing the ground, as is usual in most laptops. They will be controlled by an onboard Realtek ALC255 sound card .
As for the benefits and experience that this specification leaves us, they are generally satisfactory. The maximum volume is not going to be crazy , but it is enough to watch movies from a distance or listen to music. It is a quite warm sound, as we have a good bass presence that surrounds the rest of the frequencies quite well. It is more or less at the level of its competitors, without standing out in any particular section, but all of them of a good level
Along with this audio system we will have a standard webcam with HD resolution at 720p and recording at 30 FPS . We find it placed on the lower step behind the keyboard, so we will not avoid the typical double chin effect. A small manually operated door has been placed to cover it when we are not using it. Along with it, we will have the unidirectional double microphone matrix for chats and video calls.
Keyboard and touchpad
We continue to review the keyboard and touchpad assembly of the AORUS 15P XC, which are still the same version equipped on previous 15Ps with Nvidia RTX 20.
Gigabyte uses a full-format keyboard , with a row of dual-function F keys, as well as a numeric keypad . All this taking advantage of the maximum available space to fit the edge. Consequently, only the row of F keys will be slightly separated from the rest, while the arrow keys will not be physically differentiated from the rest.
A positive aspect is that an ISO type distribution is used , which leaves a full-size enter key and also with a layout in perfect Spanish including the Ñ . The island-type design leaves us keys quite separated from each other and with an area of 15 x 15 mm , always with the edges ending in a slight curve. The touch is quite good, and the travel it offers will be approximately 1.5 mm . The membrane that is used is quite soft and requires very little actuation force, so it works very well both in games and typing.
You couldn’t miss a key-to-key RGB Fusion 2.0 LED RGB backlight system . This means that from the Control Center management software we can customize the light individually or with predefined effects. This lighting only lights up the typeface on each key, with no backlit borders for better focus. In addition, it is a fairly powerful light, and we only miss a few shortcuts on the keyboard to modify the brightness or turn off the lighting.
The touchpad we have is heeled to the left to improve ergonomics, offering standard measurements of 106 x 65 mm . The touch of the trackpad is as good as ever, integrating its main buttons at the bottom and being perfectly fixed without slack . The click has a minimum travel and will be of medium force, counting with low noise. There will be no fingerprint sensor or Windows Hello support in the camera.
Internal features and hardware
It is time to enter the AORUS 15P XC to know in detail the hardware configuration that we have in the unit that we analyze. The main and almost only novelty will be having updated the graphics chip to the new Nvidia RTX 30.
Precisely with the dedicated graphics card we will start, which this time will be an Nvidia RTX 3070 Laptop version . We have already reviewed a few units with this specification, so it will be interesting to see how it performs. This intermediate version in performance has a GA104 chipset built in 8 nm by Samsung and the new Ampere architecture. Inside there are 40 multiprocessing units (SM) totaling 5120 CUDA cores, 160 3rd generation Tensor cores and 40 2nd generation RT cores, making a total of 160 TMUs and 80 ROPs.
The version that AORUS has used has a TGP of 115W, as the specifications show us a base frequency of 1110 MHz, being able to reach 1560 MHz in boost mode. There is still a variant of this GPU with higher power that reaches 1620 MHz. The VRAM memory configuration consists of 8 GB of GDDR6 type working at a clock frequency of 1750 MHz , that is, 14 Gbps of transfer, with a bandwidth at 448 GB / s. The bus width will be 256 bits, same as the desktop model. In addition, we have Nvidia Resizable Bar technology enabled by default, which makes GDDR6 memory available to the CPU to slightly increase performance.
We now continue with the CPU configuration, in the case of an Intel Core i7-10870H , one of the most used versions in gaming laptops as it has 8 physical and 16 logical cores . This processor uses a 14 nm ++ manufacturing process as part of the Comet Lake-H architecture, prior to the more current Tiger Lake that some high-performance mobile CPUs have.
Its specifications tell us that it reaches a Turbo Boost Max 3.0 frequency of 4.80 GHz and a maximum thermal frequency of 5 GHz, starting from 2.2 GHz. The cache memory consists of 16 MB L3 , while the TDP will be set by default at 45W. This CPU has integrated UHD 630 graphics , being able to use them in tasks that do not require 3D acceleration when we are using only the battery. Thanks to Gigabyte’s integration with Microsoft Azure AI, usage patterns will be analyzed and power adjusted to the user’s needs.
Right to the main chips, we find a 32 GB DDR4 RAM configuration using 2 16 GB modules. This makes it work in Dual Channel, and also at an effective frequency of 3200 MHz , being a speed practically standardized already in new generation laptops. The maximum capacity will be 64 GB using the two available SO-DIMM slots.
The storage section of this particular unit consists of a Phison ESR512GTLCG-EAC-4 SSD with a capacity of 512 GB . Obviously it will be a M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 drive, and with a really good performance reaching 3000 MB / s in sequence reading and 2400 MB / s in writing. We will have a second M.2 slot, to install an extra drive when the warranty expires.
In addition to the configuration seen here, a 15P KC version with Nvidia RTX 3060 Laptop graphics card, same i7-10870H CPU and 16 GB RAM will also be available.
For great hardware you need a heatsink to match, and the AORUS 15P XC meets expectations thanks to its WINDFORCE Infinity version retouched by AORUS to improve its performance.
We will have two large turbine-type fans that suck the air from below and send it to four small finned blocks installed in each of the grilles. Its high density of propellers inevitably makes it a noisy set, although it is good news to see that some of that hiss that existed in previous versions has been eliminated. In fact, its loudness is not as high as that of the AERO for example.
To transport the heat from the chips we have a total of 5 copper heatpipes , two of them common to both cold plates and one independent for each chip. This cold plate will also be made of copper and will be in contact with the processors (GPU on the left of the image, and CPU on the right) by means of gray thermal paste. They also cool the GDDR6 memory chips on the GPU and the VRM on the motherboard.
The system will offer RPM profile management from the Control Center software , as well as preconfigured profiles for silent, gaming or extreme mode. In the Esc key we will have the extreme mode available by shortcut for when necessary. Other passively cooled elements will be the HM470 chipset and the SSD via thermal pad.
We already got to see first-hand the power of the battery equipped in the AORUS 17G XC, and that of this AORUS 15P XC is going to be exactly the same specification. It is then a unit with 4 cells built in Lithium Polymer that develops a power of 99 Wh and a maximum capacity of 6514 Wh .
This time we have a 15.6-inch screen, although with the same resolution and refresh rate, as well as practically the same hardware. And as expected, the autonomy we have obtained will be about 6 and a half hours or even a little more if we make an effort by undervolting the CPU. The figure obtained will be with a Power Saber profile, brightness at half, keyboard off and doing basic tasks without using 3D acceleration or the screen at its maximum power.
